U.S. House members of the Congressional Shellfish Caucus have signed a Concurrent Resolution called: Recognizing the health benefits of eating seafood as part of a balanced diet, and supporting the goals and ideals of National Seafood Month. Halibut prices may drop. - 03/21/2008
Is halibut a bellweather? After reaching record prices and popularity last year, the dock prices of halibut have now fallen over a $1.00 from their opening a couple of weeks ago, and are below last year's prices--pushed lower by inventories of last year's fish, and some possible resistance to sky high prices. When we wrote about halibut before the season, we said what happened could be an early sign of whether there is a buyer push back against sharply higher fish prices -- and the early evidence is that this is true.

Expansion under way! - 03/05/2008
ATTENTION FISH CAFÉ PATRONS!
To improve logistics and better serve our loyal customers (and all their friends!), we will be re-locating the Fish Café to the covered deck area adjacent to the Pacific Northwest Best Fish Company Retail Store.
This move will give our customers a bit more elbow room to enjoy the finest seafood in the area, and it will also provide some operational efficiencies with our retail store. While our drive-thru will disappear, we’re still happy to handle call-in and take out orders offering curb-side pick up – and we encourage you – and all your friends to call ahead if you’re in a hurry.

In order to accomplish the move as efficiently as possible and reduce down-time for our customers, we will be shutting down the Fish Café from March 29th through April 14th.
If all goes well, we’ll be back on line by April 15th. In the interim, we will continue to serve fresh chowder in the retail space and we encourage you to visit the unbelievably friendly people inside the shop!
Thanks again for your patronage – and our apologies for any inconvenience during our move.

Mercury data outdated - 02/05/2008
The NY Times article on mercury has hurt business among the city's sushi bars by 20% to 30%, say some operators. Meanwhile, the Industry group Center for Consumer Freedom says that the current mercury consensus publicized by scientists yesterday is outdated, and should be revised. In the U.S., the issue is why the FDA standards setting process did not look at the data from the Seychelle's study, and instead relied on a data set that now is known to be flawed.
