Of the toppling waves, where the salmon ease their way into the kelp beds, and the sea rearranges itself among the small islands. Near this rose, in this grove of sun-parched, wind-warped madronas, among the half-dead trees, I came upon the true ease of myself.

Positive news about seafood in American diets. - 06/17/2010 The scientific committee that provides the underpinning for USDA and FDA dietary advice is urging more consumption of seafood, and especially more seafood consumption by pregnant women. This is excellent long term news for seafood demand, and seafood will be featured more strongly in the next iteration of dietary guidelines. Bottom-line EAT MORE SEAFOOD!
Keeping our Seafood Safe! - 06/17/2010 As part of an effort to ensure safe seafood supplies, the FDA and NOAA announced some major programs of testing and monitoring Gulf Seafood today. First, NOAA will use dockside monitoring and vessel VMS data to make sure that all seafood landed was caught in legally open areas. Secondly, the FDA will be requiring Seafood companies to update their HACCP plans to include source controls similar to those already required for shellfish. The source controls require the processor to document the seafood did not come from a closed area. *Reassured that Pacific NW Best Fish Co. will only purchase from reputable sources when supplying our customers with any products from the Gulf and will stop the influx of said seafood if any danger should present itself.*
Gulf White Prawns - 06/07/2010 Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham announced today that the special shrimp season in the remaining portion of Zone 1 and all of Zone 2 will close Tuesday at 6 p.m. Last week, Barham announced a special shrimp season in these state waters because of potential effects from the BP oil spill that could effect the Gulf of Mexico. The closure is NOT because of oil-affected water, Barham said in a news release. Rather, biologists collected data that indicates the marketable white shrimp have been harvested and the juvenile brown shrimp remain. In an effort to preserve the smaller brown shrimp, the season has been closed. Pacific NW Best Fish Co. has committed to buy the remaining inventory of gulf white prawns to add to our stock thus making sure we have an abundance of inventory of this high quality prawn to meet our customers needs. *As avid fisherman ourselves and a business that depends on sustainable seafood, our hearts go out to all the fishing communities in and around the Gulf of Mexico affected by the BP Oil Spill. We pray for a quick resolution and swift clean up effort by BP.*
